Xolo, as expected, has launched its new Omega-series smartphone, called the Omega 5.0, priced at Rs. 8,999. The company alongside has also unveiled the Xolo Omega 5.5 at Rs. 9,999.

The company announced the launch on Twitter and revealed that the new Omega series smartphones will be available in top 10 cities - Omega 5.0 starting December 10 while the Omega 5.5 will be up for grabs starting December 20.

The new Omega 5.0 and Omega 5.5 feature curved back panels and rounded edges. The company touts that the new Omega-series smartphones sport metallic rims on the sides.

The company has also announced special Vodafone offers with the Xolo Omega 5.0 and Omega 5.5. The Omega 5.0 will get free 500MB of free data and unlimited music content on Vodafone Music for two months. Meanwhile, the Omega 5.5 will get 1GB of free data and unlimited music content for two months. Unfortunately, the company has not announced whether it is offering 2G/3G data to users.

Notably, the company also revealed that Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be rolled out to Omega 5.0 and Omega 5.5 users without giving an exact time frame.

Notably, the Xolo Omega 5.0 and Omega 5.5 are the new smartphones from the company to run the proprietary Hive UI - the first was the Xolo 8X-1000. For the uninitiated, Hive UI is based on Android 4.4 KitKat and comes with major visual tweaks. Some of the Hive UI features include a new launcher and support for themes, downloadable via 'Edge', a special store that features themes, ringtones and wallpapers created by the community and Indian artists.

Other additions in the Hive UI include a new contacts app that comes with Facebook integration; Chameleon widget for notifications on weather, calendar, missed calls, SMS and email; and an overhauled gallery app. The company has also promised that the Xolo Omega 5.0 and Omega 5.5 will be receiving "frequent enhancement updates" from the company.

The Omega 5.0, much like the 8X-1000, is powered by a 1.4GHz octa-core MediaTek processor. However, it packs a different chipset - MT6592M.

The dual-SIM device comes with 1GB of RAM and includes 8GB of built-in storage, which is further expandable via microSD card (up to 32GB).

It features a 5-inch HD (720x1280 pixels) IPS display offering a pixel density of 294ppi. It sports an 8-megapixel autofocus rear camera with LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, and Exmor R Sensor, while also housing a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The rear camera can record videos at 1080p (full-HD) resolution.

It packs a 2100mAh battery with no word on talk time and standby time. Connectivity options on the Xolo Omega 5.0 include Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, Micro-USB, GPRS/ EDGE, and 3G. It measures 144x72x10.5mm and will be available in Black colour.

The Omega 5.5, as the name suggests, features a 5.5-inch IPS HD (720x1280 pixels) display. It sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with Sony Exmor RS sensor and a 2-megapixel front camera. It packs a 2600mAh battery. Other specifications of the Omega 5.5 are identical to the Omega 5.0.
