The Korean smartphone maker had started rolling out an Android Jelly Bean update for its Note device starting February and it is now available in 10-12 markets.

The update brings new features like Google Now, offline voice typing, expandable notifications and more, in addition to performance improvements credited to Google's "Project Butter". It also brings the Nature UX interface, which Samsung introduced on the Galaxy SIII and Galaxy Note II. The update brings other Note II features including Multi-View, for multi Window Multitasking, Page buddy, customisable notification panel, Swipe like Input in Samsung Keyboard, Direct Call, Smart Stay and Pop-up Play, new widgets and Google Now.

Samsung Galaxy Note was the first phablet to be announced by Samsung at the IFA event 2011. It sports a 5.3-inch screen and is powered by a dual-core 1.4GHz Exynos processor. The other features of this smartphone include 32GB of internal storage, 8-megapixel camera, 2-megapixel front camera and 2,500mAh battery. The Korean smartphone maker initially had to face a lot of criticism from analysts for this device, but it went on to become one of the most commercially successful devices. In August 2012, Samsung had announced that it has managed to ship 10 million units of the phone globally.

It originally shipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread, but received the Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich update in August, last year. At the time of the update there were reports pointing towards Samsung working on the Jelly Bean update and delivering it in Q4 2012.

Samsung has already released the successor to the phone, the Galaxy Note II, which as per Samsung is also doing well, with the company selling 5 million units of the phone barely two months since it started shipping.

After the success of Note and Note II, many Indian brands to have forayed into the phablet space with their affordable phablet offerings.
