First Windows Phone Device With 'Windows' Branding Spotted: Report

Last week, Microsoft's plans to drop the 'Phone' from the Windows Phone name and logo as part of the transition to the unifying 'Threshold' Windows 9 update were hinted at in a purported confidential document. Now if a UK-based manufacturer's smartphone product images are to be believed, the transition has slowly begun, as the back of the smartphone features the Windows logo with words 'Windows' instead of 'Windows Phone'.

According to a Neowin report on Sunday, a British smartphone manufacturer called My Go, which is working on its first Windows Phone called GoFone GF47W, has revealed the new branding for Windows smartphone on its microsite marked as "Confidential Internal Use Only" in big bright red letters on top.

Along with the new naming at the back of the GoFone GF47W smartphone, the website have also used references such as "your Windows GoFone", "time to go Windows" and "Windows GoFone with Xbox", indicating that Windows Phone will no longer be the convention for upcoming smartphones powered by Microsoft's OS.

Previously, the purported confidential document that surfaced online also hinted that the Redmond giant might ditch the Nokia branding from its upcoming Lumia devices, leaving Lumia as the only brand name for its upcoming smartphones.

"As part of our phased transition, we will drop the manufacturer name [Nokia] from product references during the Holiday campaign," stated one of the slides from the leaked document, titled 'Product Naming'.

Interestingly, the report had contradicted an earlier report from June, which suggested that Microsoft would rebrand the Nokia Lumia smartphones to 'Nokia by Microsoft'.
