CyanogenMod 11.0 M6 was released to the general public on Sunday, and is available to download. The open-source community has also revealed the changelog for the new 'snapshot' OS build that's compatible with a wide range of Android-based smartphones (full list)

The news comes from a post on CyanogenMod's official blog, which mentions the change in the name from 'stable' to 'M' series as the former raised confusion among users. "Like the 'stables' before it, 'M' releases are built off the 'stable/CM-##.#' branches - the only difference is now frequency and label. We could have chosen to remove 'M' releases and stick with the 'stable' tag instead for these monthlies, but the word 'stable' itself is a misnomer - it doesn't mean bug free and it certainly never meant feature complete; but with the name 'stable' it gave the false impression that it did mean those things - especially to those risk-adverse that would only hop from 'stable' to 'stable'," stated the blog.

CyanogenMod also mentions that it plans to release updates after every two weeks, and that the full CyanogenMod 11.0 release will also be released soon.

The changes that will arrive in the CM 11.0 M6 include a fix for the Quick Settings tile for Quiet Hours; the integration of Voice+ to the settings menu; the addition of provider permissions for Blacklist; fixed custom wallpaper crashes and album art issues of the lock screen; screen-off animation options for display; Bluetooth fixes with audio routing to select car makes/models along with upstream updates; MultiSim updates including additional patches and UI/UX modifications; the new 'eject card' action for USB storage in the settings option; decreased shutdown time in Parallel Shutdown mode; and add pause/resume support for downloads.

Some of the other fixes and updates made in the CM 11.0 M6 OS include the ability to disable elements when in custom lock screen; the landscape tile layout fix, option to show smaller tiles and add BT device name to tile in Quick Settings; usage stats page fix; resolved memory leaks in Frameworks; new Theme Engine capabilities including chooser; fix for security vulnerability in icons; trebuchet - hidden apps and labels support, and the removal of parallel boot dexopt from stable/cm-11.0 branch.

Last month Cyanogen, as promised in January, teamed up with OnePlus on the recently launched OnePlus One, providing a custom CM 11S OS version for the smartphone.
