This phone is good in performance and display but weak in camera and battery backup. The battery feature should have been improved before release.

Yes it does support USB OTG. I know this because I use it to control the pointer or do file transfers.

  • Great phone at an exceptional price.
Abcd Sdf (May 6, 2014) on Gadgets 360
First of all ,I will list down the pros of nexus 5. 1. Pure unadulterated android version, although somewhat you feel like its more of Google. 2.Exceptionally fast processor and bright full hd display. 3.First one to receive latest android updates. 4.Last but not the least,Best value for money phone available in the market in this range. The cons- 1.Average battery life. 2.No slot for external memory card, although you can get the 32 GB version also. 3.Not great camera. All I can say is,if you are ok with its battery life and camera, then just buy this phone,I guarantee you will not regret it.

  • Very dissapointed with Google
    G Morris (Mar 16, 2015) on Gadgets 360
I bought 3 brand new Nexus 5 from google. 1 1/2 years later two are still working but have had an issue with one from the start. 6 months after buying the phone would not start up. I contacted Google and they said send it back. I did and received a refurbished phone back. Six months after that the phone would try to start up and but never start. Talked to Google on phone, did what they said and it still would not start. Sent it back like they said, this time they said PowerFreeze issue and wanted me to pay $189. They said their technical department said physical damage to phone. Phone was in exact shape when rec'd, perfect condition. Also PowerFreeze is a common complaint for this phone. Will never do business with Google again as long as I live.

  • Why the Google Pixel didn’t work in India
Arvind (May 4, 2017) on Gadgets 360 Recommends
The Google Pixel is the first phone actually made by Google . It is not a reference design to OEMs like the Nexus devices, but rather a device made FOR consumers, a high end smartphone that is Google’s vision of an ideal Android flagship, one that is aimed to dethrone the mighty iPhone. It has the best specifications, a compact design( Pixel, not the XL), the smoothest Android experience( optimized by Google themselves) and is critically acclaimed as the best Android smartphone ever. Google has launched a huge advertising campaign (read: spent lots of money), generated a lot of hype, raised consumer awareness, they even have back orders in America. Sounds like a great phone, doesn’t it? Then why isn’t selling in India? Well, the biggest problem is the price. At 57,000 INR ( about $750), it is expensive. It is in flagship territory. It is competing with the Galaxy S7 and the iPhone. The price itself puts it way out of the budget of ordinary consumers, people looking for the bang for their buck. Plus the price isn’t too far off from an iPhone, which apart from being a really excellent phone, is a status symbol in India. Why would someone buy any other phone, if they have the means for it to flaunt an Apple logo? Plus with Samsung pushing out deals and freebies on their range of smartphones, the Pixel is an even tougher sell, since Indian consumers like to get something “free” for their money, not to forget that Samsung has added loads of features to their S7 line, enticing users for their “you’ll use it one time, but hey, it’s there” features. Then there are the budget flagships, the “flagship killers”, giving people the same internals of the Pixel for roughly half the price ( the OnePlus 3) making the Pixel look like a bad deal. Plus considering that people don’t even buy an iPhone if not for the status symbol, these phones look even more attractive, and are selling quite well. So, the Pixel is not a bad phone, but the it’s punching a bit above its weight, atleast in a money-centric market like India, where a good deal is always preferred. One thing is sure though, the Pixel will sell if the price is lowered (isn’t that true for anything else as well?). But for now, there is no compelling reason for people to buy a Pixel yet, so until then the sales won’t really be the best.

  • The best Android experience!
Mohd. Alber Jahangir (Jun 1, 2014) on Gadgets 360
I had recently picked one Nexus 5 and will share how much it impressed, disappointed or wow?d me. Galaxy phones non standardized, outdated and modified versions of android have always frustrated me, I remember how much I wished my S3,S4 were not having the hardware home button and instead the original nexus style home button. Same goes for the multitasking key. While using the non Nexus phones I was always feeling lagging behind when it comes to software update and not having the real feel and functionality of android as google wanted it to be. So, I picked one Nexus 5 and here is the review. I got a black one and the first thing I noticed about the phone is its very understated design. The front face is all black with no branding and actually I like that as it makes it different from the usual crowd of phones. It gives a sense of uniqueness. The back is a soft touch plastic with a Nexus written vertically. The soft touch goes till the edges of the phone and serves as a better grip when in hand and feels extremely comfortable to hold. The ear piece is unusually round but adds to the uniqueness of the phone. There is a notification light at the bottom as with all nexus phones although I never figured out why not on top! The phone feels quite light in hand given the size of it. One thing that I always wished is a removable battery which unfortunately is not the case here. So if you take great care of your phones you can have a shiny phone with a worn out battery after a year or so. There are usual sensors on the front and ceramic power and volume buttons on the sides. On the top you have the headphone jack and a microphone for noise cancellation and talking when the phone is on speakerphone. The back of the phone has a rather unusually big camera lens with a tiny flash LED right beneath it.if you notice the camera lens it actually is not flush to the back but protrudes out a bit and is susceptible to scratches if you keep it on its back on surfaces. I am yet to discover the reasons behind not recessing the camera a bit into the phone to save it from scratches! The bottom of the phone has a microphone and a speakerphone with iPhone 5 like perforations. Since the words that I can use here are limited, I will summarize the review. Nexus is a great phone. Its a phone for the people who are android purists. You are always running the latest android sweetness the moment it is served unlike other android flagships like HTC and samsung where you spend more and get an outdated android version with no gurantee of the upgrade. It performs butterly smooth with no bloatware and you get a clean and minimalist interface which in a way relaxes you. The camera is superb as against the reviews as i found pics well focussed and low light performance was wonderful. With each upgrade it makes it better n better. One thing that I wished it has is a removable battery. But between iPhone 5s, s4 and Nexus 5, I use nexus 5 as its a great phone at an unbeatable price

This I bought after getting tired of Blackberry 9800 Torch.I bought it because read reviews everywhere, watched shows not a single disappointing response from anyone.this Phone was with for 2 months .then I actually lost It somewhere and after that I could not trace it Flagship phone from Google.. Manutfactured by LG.. Powered by QUALCOMM Snapdragon 800 chipset clocked at 2.3 gHz fastest processor based on the latest Cortex A9 architecture & with Adreno 330 gpu for highly intensive gaming. Its coupled with 2 Gb of RAM for Multitasking and lag free experience. It?s a 5 inch Full HD display 1920 x 1080 p resolution? with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.. The Nexus5 has a unibody design with a nonremovable battery of 2500mAH which shall easily provide a days backup after heavy usage Looks premium.. Camera is a 8 MP shooter with BSI Sensor capable of recording full HD videos. The device runs on the latest version of Android ie Kitkat 4.4.2. and google has already promised the next upgrade: Benchmark scores: AnTuTu: 20306 Nenamark 60.1 fps Quadrant: 8246 Pros: Will always get the latest Android updates Very powerful phone at very low price. Premium looks Scratch resitant Glass with an FHD display Cons: No Memory Card Support Battery Non Removable.. • GOOGLE NEXUS 5- Google's very own Masterpiece
Vikram Bajaj (May 31, 2014) on Gadgets 360
The Nexus 5 has a beautiful Full HD(1920x1080) 4.95" display. It has an amazingly fast quadcore processor clocked at 2.26GHz,works as smooth as butter,no lag whatsoever. With the Nexus 5,Google gives us the PURE ANDROID experience, which is wonderful in every way. There is an 8MP rear shooter and a 1.3MP front facing camera, both of which are excellent, especially after the updated camera app.It is capable of recording full HD videos. The phone is sleek and a pleasure to hold and work with.It also has a notification light,a feature not so common out there. Google makes sure it updates all its core apps regularly to give us a wonderful experience. Obviously, being a Nexus,it is guaranteed to receive all the latest Android? updates. But,as we all are aware, every coin has two faces;so does the Nexus 5.There are a few flaws with this near-to-perfect phone:The speakers aren't loud enough at times as tend to get covered while playing games in landscape mode due to their sometimes inconvenient position. Also, the camera fails to focus properly once in a while, but this is being looked into by Google Camera? updates. The good points outweigh the bad ones over all. All in all,the Nexus 5 is a dream come true and I'm very glad to be a proud owner of one.I would surely recommend it to everyone out there! Get one if you haven't already, I'm sure you won't regret it! :)

  • Awesome Smartphone!
Gollem Mazek (May 31, 2014) on Gadgets 360
I lost my Samsung galaxy S4 and decided to look for a cheaper alternative. I got the Nexus 5 32Gb. All I can say is I love it! Simple Android interface without all the bloated apps I had on my previous phone. Pure android experience. The battery is good. To be honest the camera images are pretty much the same as the samsung and gives me no issues especially the HDR mode which works excellent. Love the photosphere setting!. The optical stabilization is excellent too. As for no sd storage it makes no difference as 32gb is plenty(around 26gb available due to OS etc) and I would rather store my photos or whatever on google drive (cloud) as its safer that way considering I lost my previous images that I had on my Samsung. The phone feels faster and more smooth as well. The screen is just awesome and is better. I got the white back version and it looks excellent. Nice build quality for the price and feels lighter than what it looks. The speed on 4G network is outstanding. Everything just runs fast and nothing slows it down. The only downside is the speaker location on the bottom of the phone and general sound level is not as loud as my previous phone but its not far off. Everything else is better...I am overall extremely pleased with the Nexus 5 and I would highly recommend it. Honestly I cant think of any other phone which comes close for the money...

anything from google will always make it special. this is what i feel and hence i jumped to purchase this device when it was available in the market. pros: 1. Feels great when you hold it. ergonomically its excellent. 2. specification under the hood is great for that price range. 3.will always be updated with the latest android. so u will always be updated. 4. excellent for games and multitasking. 5. no hanging problems. cons: 1. battery life is poor. need to manually set hell lot of stuffs to retain the charge. 2. camera is average. 3. if it falls from your hand, its gone...basically the screen (i have seen this happening with my friend's Nexus!). so you are expected to have a carry case! still its worth the money. i believe that if u have the money ( around 30k) you will always have additional 1k for a good mobile case...so no worries...simply go for it and have fun!!!!

  • Nexus 5 - The King of phones for the queens
Neha Gupta (May 31, 2014) on Gadgets 360
I have been using this phone for nearly 6 months now and looks like it delivers everything that i need and more. I chose to write this review essentially to help all the pretty ladies wanting to figure out which phone they should buy. You can find all about the tech specs above in the detailed review already. Here's what my practical experience about this phone is : PRO's : 1. Sturdy phone - The phone is 100% manicure fingers proof i.e. has been dropped on the road, home floor, office floor like atleast 10 times. As long as you have a decent bumper cover around the corners the screen is tough enough for you. 2. Just the right size - A lot of people warned me a tad bit about the large size of the phone while buying...some even suggested the phone might be just a tad bit too big for my hands! No worries ladies ... its a perfect fit. Its not too small to slip away and yet slim enough to fit in that evening clutch of yours. 3. Camera Quality - While there is a lot of buzz around the camera quality being a tad bit poor etc etc .. girls this phone is absolutely perfect for that selfie with the friends and all your travel pictures. There are enough tools for you to play around with and there is no visibly objectionable problem there. 4. Memory - I think we girls always have a problem of knowing whats "ENOUGH" space. I was strongly advised by a lot of people that i dont need too much space and 16GB would be enough. I still went ahead and bought 32 GB ... and guess how much i am using currently .... not even 5! So save some money for the new shade of lipcolour and a mascara....go for the 16 GB option. Its ok 5. Under the hood - The phone is pretty fast and cool. It performs very well , has loads of special features and keeps getting the latest updates from google too. The display is brilliant both in the sun and indoors. Emails with attachments can also be read very well. 6. Google Now : Ladies , now you have google at your beck and call. Just say "Ok Google" and you are set from sending an email / sms , to finding driving directions to the nearest bakery / salon ...all there at your single command. Its kinda cute how Google reads your emails and remembers things you forget , like your best friends birthday bash today where you are to pick up the cake on your way, or your flight tomorrow which you are definitely going to be late for if you don't finish packing already. CONS : 1. Battery Life : There is some issue with that. Although an average day can go without scampering for the charger but i feel there is something not so great there. The phone gets heated up a bit when you play games etc for a longer time too. 2. Google Now : While its awesome to get so many features and assistance from google now its also kinda creepy. The first time it told me my flight in a different city was on time and set off an alarm for me to leave in time .. kinda made me feel like am being stalked. So be carefully of what all your sync on this device.

pros : a). The processor is a beast.Smooth handling without a single lag. b). the screen is awesome. you would love to watch movies & pictures in this phone. the 4.95 inch screen full hd screen with 445 ppi is the best you can have. c). adreno 330 gpu does amazing work in handling all the graphics d) 2 GB Ram. e) kitkat gives a wonderful android experience f) camera is good , may not be the best in low lighting otherwise good, especially after the update . The HDR+ feature works very nicely. g) if you love gaming , then you will love the phone . h) reading news & magazines feels great in this phone due to the large screen with high resolution. i) it is very light . back panel gives a nice grip. j) Design is awesome. k)plus its Google's. cons a) the major con is the battery. it has a battery of 2300 mah , which is not at all good, i have to charge at least twice to perform basic functions, the screen drains a lot of battery. Nexus 5 has a bug where a demon thread which works for the camera keeps on working even camera is off. Hope it gets resolved in next update. b) auto brightness of the phone works too well. it gives you more brightness than required , eventually draining your battery c) the speaker sound is very clear but a bit low. could have been better. But overall this phone is the best if you compare to other high-end phones.

The processor Qualcomm SnapdragonTM 800, 2.3 GHz CPU makes all the difference. There is no lagging anywhere. Slim phone, very easy to carry. Its very user friendly. I would suggest 32 GB rather than 16 gb because there is no expandable memory. Crystal-clear calls. Google makes everything available in your hand Easy to Sync Gamers will have a very good time no lags, excellent graphics. Pros: Super camera quality. Best Processor means high performance. You will receive updates 1st in the queue directly from source (google) Excellent Sync Slim Screen and resolution Cons:- Screen is dimmer than its competitors. The camera struggles under auto settings Non-expandable memory. Mediocre battery life.

Aayush Agarwal (May 22, 2014) on Gadgets 360
If you're into specs or if you're an Android purist, then this is definitely the phone for you. Price is what really sets the Nexus 5 apart?you're getting the same internals as every other flagship, but at half the cost. Being the successor to Nexus 4, this device has even better specs and stronger performance which gives the best experience for a smartphone in reach of a middle class man. Bottom line, the Nexus 5 is a solid phone at a good price. My rating would be between 4-5.

Nexus 5 should have a maor jump in battery. LG G2 has a 3000 mah battery which has the same processor & a 5.2 inch screen. Something like that would have been better. But it still manages to give backup for nearly a day. b) auto brightness of the phone works too well. it gives you more brightness than required , eventually draining your battery c) the speaker sound is very clear but a bit low. could have been better. d) auto rotation feature of screen sometimes doesn't work that well, it is very rare though.

Prateek Jain (May 8, 2014) on Gadgets 360
The nexus 5 is the best phone in this price range, it does come with a small battery & the camera is not the best considering other flagship models but the fact that you get the latest chipset from Qualcomm & the adreno 330 GPU along with 2GB ram & most important of all updates from google for the next 18 months at least makes this phone a value for money product, another stand out feature for me is Corning Gorilla glass 3 which means a screen guard is not required for the screen however some may disagree. Pro & Cons have been discussed in many other reviews so i thought i would state a few battery saving tips. 1) Screen brightness set manually as per requirement & not on auto. 2) Turn Off Google Now if not required. 3) Uncheck Wi-fi scanning even when wi-fi is switched off. 4) Bluetooth,GPS, Wi-fi,NFC & other wireless features switched off when not required. 5)Vibrate on keypress also switched off. 6)Refrain from using Live wallpapers. 7) Keep Widget usage to a minimum & keep as few home screens as possible. 8) Manually update apps switch off auto-updates as constant search for updates online does drain battery. 9) Toggle between 2G/3G as per requirement, especially considering 3G reception is still not great in india. 10) Kill all apps that you dont want running in the background. Some of the above are basic, others are tips which users may not be aware of.

Hi I have been using nexus 5 for 4 months. Overall the phone is very good for its price. Pros: 1080p display which is amazing for movies Snapdragon 800 processor and adreno 330gpu can run any game smoothly. It is one of those very few phones that can run games as smooth as an iPhone. Camera is very good. Cons:But I am not satisfied with the build quality If you drop the phone from pocket, the screen will shatter. If you are able to use a case it is safe. The internal storage is small. Verdict:Best phone for rs.30000

  • Bad service from LG for a factory hardware issue
Yael Front (Jun 11, 2015) on Gadgets 360
Nexus 5 problem: the phone crashes and restarts on its own account several times an hour (this has been going on for a couple of weeks now. It started off with one restart every couple of days. Now its every few hours), sometimes "optimizing" all the apps before loading again. I have spoken to 3 customer support representatives at Google today and one at LG. I have tried safe mode (checking if any of my apps are causing the problem), but this did not change anything. I do not want to bother myself and go back to factory settings, since, from many other accounts of this issue posted around the web, this is not a software issue, but a hardware one. It looks like a whole batch of these devices is flawed. Google only knows to suggest these steps (actually read me through them one by one), and when they didn't work, put LG on the phone). LG won't replace my phone, since it's not under warranty, even though they clearly messed up here. They say I can send the phone in to be fixed (not giving me an estimate till I send it in and have no phone for an unknown period of time). If they can't fix the phone, they will offer me a replacement, at a cost, of course. They wouldn't even tell me what this cost is, even though I am sure there is a fixed price. Now tell me, why would a sane person pay for another phone that is exactly the same, after the previous one died within less than two years of its purchase, while being treated exceptionally well? I know that is why the warranty is a year-long in the first place, but the internet is filling up with these complaints. It is really in LG's and Google's best interest to start taking responsibility and supplying replacements for devices that die because of a hardware problem within such a short time.

  • A horrible experience with both Nexus 5 and the LG service center

BEWARE!The hardware is extremely flawed and you will probably have to replace it in a year's time for a huge cost! My Nexus 5 kept restarting and optimizing apps after the warranty period had expired. Optimizing the apps takes at least half an hour and then when I used the phone for a few minutes, it would restart all over again. Then it stopped working altogether. When I went to the service center, they said it was a hardware problem and had to replace my motherboard. It costed me Rs.8000. When I finally went to pick up my phone they made me wait for 2 and half hours even though I had come a month later after they had called me to come pick it up.The LG service center people were extremely unprofessional and only seemed interested in minting money. There were at least 10 other people who had come with the same problem. And their phone? Nexus 5! You won't realize it if you've just bought it but you are sure to face serious problems in a few month's time.

  • 6 years and counting

It's crazy but I got this phone the day it was launched, payed cash and I am still using it as of 21st Sept 2019. So that's about 6 years. I have never even used the screen protector thing. I don't have a need for another phone and also I wanted to see how long it would last. So 30k was well spent. I don't even want a new phone and I am still rocking this one. My first phone with my own money and no regrets.
