Google is once again giving away 2GB of free permanent storage to Google Drive users on Safer Internet Day, which is Tuesday. All users need to do is to complete a short security checkup on their Google Account.

The account security checkup process will make you review your account recovery options, connected devices, services with permissions, and 2-step verification settings. Once the process has been completed, users will see a final page thanking them, with the words, "To help celebrate Safer Internet Day 2016, we added 2GB of free Drive storage to your Google account because you completed the Security Checkup." The added storage might not reflect immediately after the process however.

Users can head to their own Security Checkup page to go through the drill. Google is not new to such offers and gives away free storage from time to time to lure its users.

The search giant in November last year gave 1TB of Drive storage for free if you contributed to make its mapping and navigation service better. As a part of the updated Google Maps' Local Guides program, the firm rewarded people who added useful information to Google maps by putting up reviews, uploading photos, or marking tourist spots etc.

In July, Google made its Cloud Storage Nearline available to the general public. The company additionally announced that it would offer storage of 100PB of space for free, in order to tempt users.

Several other tech giants have introduced numerous plans to entice users to use their cloud storage services. In November, Amazon started offering unlimited photo backup at $1 and unlimited file storage at $5 per year. Apple in September bumped up the storage offered to paying iCloud subscribers, apart from slashing the subscription fee for higher storage tiers.
