Rockstar Games on Tuesday announced some much awaited news at the sidelines of E3 2014 - the mecca for gamers. Grand Theft Auto V, the latest instalment of the seminal open-world crime game, has been announced for PC (and PS4, Xbox One).

PC gamers that are fans of the franchise must surely be rejoicing at the news, published on the Rockstar blog, after swallowing bitter disappointment with Rockstar's omission last year, and subsequent silence on the matter. Next-gen console gamers will also welcome the news, despite the year's wait.

Grand Theft Auto V (Review) was the best-selling game of 2013 with 32.5 million copies sold by the end of the year, despite a launch as late as September.

Rockstar's GTA V launched to rave reviews, with several calling the instalment worth the wait of five years.  According to Rockstar Games, the game's sales on launch day garnered $800 million, and that too only on two platforms.

For the most part, it's illegal business as usual in the latest edition of Grand Theft Auto. There are vehicles to swipe, schemes to plan and banks to rob. Unlike previous instalments in the wildly successful - and violent - M-rated series, GTA V centres not just on one but three criminal protagonists: former partners Michael and Trevor, and their new protégé, Franklin.

With an obsessive attention to detail, the Californian city of Los Santos - last visited in 2004's GTA: San Andreas - and its outlying areas feel alive. Rockstar Games has masterfully crafted a stunning make-believe take on modern Southern California that rivals the dragon-infested realm from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
