If Uncharted: The Lost Legacy and Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite wasn’t enough, Sony rounded off PlayStation Experience 2016 (PSX) with The Last of Us Part II.

Considering how the first game ended, a sequel seems contrived. More so since The Last of Us Part II stars the same two protagonists of the first game — Joel and Ellie. A trailer showed off cinematics from an early stage development version of the game on the PS4.

The video had Ellie and Joel in conversation in a house littered with corpses. Joel asks Ellie if she “plans to go through with it” to which she says she will “kill each and every last one of them.”

"I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey," wrote Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann on the PlayStation Blog.

"It’s still early days for the project—the game’s release is a ways off—but we couldn’t wait any longer to give you a glimpse of what’s to come. We’re going to let the trailer (coming soon to this post) speak for itself, but expect more information about The Last of Us Part II in the coming months."

Cryptic conversations aside you shouldn’t expect this anytime soon, 2018 at best for the PS4 and PS4 Pro.

Released initially in 2013, The Last of Us was one of the last great games on the PS3. A year later, Sony brought a remaster to the PS4 which got updated for the PS4 Pro as well.

With Naughty Dog working on Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, a generous number of updates to Uncharted 4’s multiplayer, and now The Last of Us: Part II, it will be interesting to see what takes higher priority for the studio in the year to come. More so considering title of The Last of Us’ sequel implies more tales starring Ellie and Joel in the future.
