PS4 Exclusives Were 'Not as Strong' in 2015, Admits Executive

Although the PlayStation 4 is the gaming console of choice, racing past 30 million sold since its launch in November 2013, it doesn't have as many great exclusive games as the Xbox One.

Sure, we've seen a few such as Bloodborne, The Order: 1886, and Until Dawn. But they pale in comparison to Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Forza 6. That's not even counting Gears of War Ultimate Edition and Rare Replay. Sony's exclusives aren't as strong as they should have been.

And it's something the company agrees with. In conversation with GameSpot, Michael Ephraim, Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Australia, stated that Sony has focused on tie-ups with publishers like Activision for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Electronic Arts for Star Wars Battlefront to fill the void caused by the lack of big exclusives.

"Games that have been released this year, from Destiny, Call of Duty, Star Wars -- most of them we have a collaboration with for additional content if you play on PlayStation 4, so we're pretty confident with the way Christmas is going. The demand is strong," Ephraim said.

"We have worked very closely with third parties this year because our first party lineup was not as strong as we would have liked," he added. And talked up what to expect from the PS4 in 2016.

Ephraim went on to say, "Next year, our first party lineup looks incredible. You've got Street Fighter, Uncharted 4, No Man's Sky, The Last Guardian, Gran Turismo [in beta next year]. These are all exclusives, and two of them are new franchises."

While India is yet to see Sony go beyond bundles with games like Batman: Arkham Knight and Grand Theft Auto V in terms of third-party promotions, it will be interesting to see how the company approaches next year with a slew of exclusives on the way. Hopefully there should be enough to justify it's fantastic sales run thus far.
