Overwatch Christmas Event Starts December 13, Here's What to Expect

Highlights

  • The Overwatch Christmas event begins on December 13
  • Expect new skins, voice lines, and sprays
  • There will be festive additions to existing maps too

Much like events for the Olympics and Halloween, multiplayer shooter Overwatch will be having an event to celebrate Christmas as well. Expect Christmas-themed Overwatch character skins, emotes, sprays, intros, and voice lines among others. The Overwatch Christmas event will take place from December 13.

Hints from the official Overwatch Twitter account suggest that the map King’s Row would get a Christmas makeover and one of the game’s characters, Tjorborn would get a Santa Claus skin. And much like previous seasonal events, expect new game modes. Halloween saw Dr. Junkenstein’s Revenge — a co-op campaign take on Overwatch while the Olympics showed off Lucioball — a brawl mode exclusive to the event.

Overwatch has seen a flurry of activity over the past few weeks. In addition to bringing new character Sombra to the game, other inclusions are the Arcade mode, a new map, PS4 Pro support, and a host of balancing and progression tweaks. Most importantly the Overwatch League which was announced at Blizzcon.

The Overwatch League’s maiden season will take place next year. Play well enough and you might be invited to join teams. In taking such a hands-on approach to Overwatch’s e-sports potential, it seems that Blizzard wants to build the EPL or IPL of Overwatch.

For what it’s worth, we found Overwatch to be one of the year’s best games. There are various heroes to choose from, near perfect gameplay, and the promise of extended support and free content, most of which Blizzard has made good on so far.
