Casio on Thursday launched its new camera from the Exilim line, the Exilim EX-100, at the CP+ event taking place in Tokyo, Japan.

The Casio Exilim EX-100 is a compact camera boasting of a 28-300mm equivalent lens, with a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture. It has a 1/1.7-type back-illuminated CMOS sensor (unspecified resolution) and a 3.5-inch tilting LCD screen. Other features include manual controls, RAW shooting capabilities, and 6fps continuous shooting with auto focus. It also includes Wi-Fi, HDR exposure blending, interval shooting, time-lapse and slow motion movie recording. It has a 10x optical zoom on it.

The camera is an interesting and a refreshing change from Casio's predictable line. Why? For starters, is the shooting mode, which features the dual-bracketing setting. It captures a shot nine times by varying parameters like white balance, exposure, focus, colour saturation and shutter speed. What is then displayed on the screen is nine different shots. The premium bracketing mode allows a user to juggle between the four presets present in the camera. There is also an all-in-focus macro feature, that combines focus bracketing with high speed continuous shooting.

The question arises do the features stand out to justify the 89,000 yen (roughly $873 or Rs. 54,000) price tag on it.? As of now the camera is only been announced for Japan, but we suspect it will find its way to the international markets too. But even then the price tag on it is not cheap. Certainly not when there are seemingly better options from other camera brands.
