If you're an admirer of crossword puzzles and enjoy quoting others like I do, then here's an app that blends the two perfectly. Quote Unquote developed by Tiny Bite Games is highly addictive especially when you're idle and on-the-move. Don't be fooled by the interface of the app which looks like it's developed for small kids. As you unlock levels, the game becomes quite challenging testing your vocabulary and knowledge skills.

The app opens with the developer's logo and then reveals the name of the game with basic menu options: Play, About, How-To and Settings. The About section gives information about the developer and also a link to their website where you can access the hints for the game.

I entered the type of Puzzle Pack, Puzzle Number, Clue Number and Number of starting letters to reveal the hint. Once I clicked on 'Get Hint', it revealed the answer as per my entries. How-To option explains the game in one singe step.

IMG_0027.jpgUnder the Settings option you can reset your puzzles to their default state or restore previously purchased puzzle packs for free. This does seem a bit tedious and would've been appreciated if it was a built-in feature of the app.

The free version of the app has only one Puzzle Pack called 'Beginnings' which has 24 puzzles. This was disheartening for me at first but more than compensated for once I began playing. The basic idea of the game is that before each puzzle is revealed, a quotation appears on the screen. These quotations pertain to some of the greatest minds of all time such as Woody Allen, Jane Austen, Mark Twain, Ellen DeGenres and so on and so forth. Your puzzle contains clues hidden within the quotation.

To unlock a clue, tap a clue line and then touch that part of the quote that you think is the answer to your puzzle. The clues for each word are in batches of two or three letters. The easy part is that you don't have to touch each letter of the quote to unlock your answer. The clues can be revealed with letters that are together. What I loved most was that when you touch the quote, the letters are enlarged in a magnifying glass graphic which looks very classic.

IMG_0038.jpgThe bonus clues are really motivating. I was extremely curious to solve them at first but you have to complete the other clues to unlock bonus clues that can be solved with the remaining letters in the quote. These have to be entered individually though. And voila! Your puzzle is now complete. You can download more puzzle packs: 'Wise Words' and 'Funny Stuff' for a price of $0.99 based on 30 wise and funny quotations respectively.

Quote Unquote is a great gaming app that will keep you hooked once you start playing. The level of difficulty keeps increasing as you play along causing your brain to really think hard. The app works well on both iOS and Android devices. You can play it with children as well since it is fun and educational.
