Popular music streaming service Gaana has announced the release of v5.0 of its Android app to coincide with the beginning of Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout.
Gaana 5.0 app for Android features a dark theme and album colour layout along with a new 'Playlists of the Hour' section. The section shows programmed audio playlists, which changes every few hours. The app also brings easier access to music videos and lyrics, language filters, improved bandwidth utilisation on 2G connections, and automatic syncing across different devices. The last feature is available only to subscribers of the paid Gaana+ service.
"Gaana is about music, and so we changed the interface to make the music as easy to find, and as prominent as possible," Saurabh Goel, Product Head of Gaana said in a press statement.
The firm has also announced its partnership with Paytm for a new referral programme that lets users earn extra talk time by inviting their friends to Gaana service. Users can invite their friends from WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, SMS, and email, earning upto Rs. 100 talk time.
The updated Gaana app version 5.0 is available to download via Google Play. An updated version of the app with similar features will roll out to iOS and Windows Phone users soon, the company said.
It is worth noting that Bharti Airtel in September launched a new music streaming service with an OTT app that is carrier agnostic. Called Wynk Music, it is currently only available for Android and iOS, and offers an 'expert curated' library of 1.7 million regional and International songs across 8 languages (English, Hindi, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Bengali).
