The updated iOS app for Asana, a productivity, collaboration and communications tool created by Dustin Moskovitz and Justin Rosenstein, was released on Tuesday, with a new interface, as well as iPad optimisation.

Available via the App Store, the Asana app for iPhone and iPad is a 9.9MB download, and is compatible with devices running iOS 7.0 or higher. The app, according to the listing page, has been optimised for iOS 7 and the iPad, and features improved performance for faster access to your team's work and conversations.

Other new features listed on the App Store listing of Asana include simplified navigation; the display of a summary of tasks and team updates on the homescreen; a new Quick Add button to add tasks from anywhere in the app; better integration with iPhone and iPad camera; the new swipe right gesture to complete tasks; support for commenting, subtasks, and updating assignees and followers, as well as the ability to drag and drop to reorder tasks.

The description of the Asana app on the App Store reads, "Teamwork without email. Asana puts tasks & conversations together, so everything your team is working on and talking about is in one place-instead of scattered across email threads."

Asana on its site says that several companies and institutions have shifted to its model of 'teamwork without email', naming major clients like Dropbox, Uber, Virginia Tech, and Pinterest. The company describes its mission as rather altruistic.

"Asana's mission is to help humanity thrive by enabling all teams to work together effortlessly. We've re-imagined how work gets done through a fast and versatile web application that connects everyone with what's going on, their shared priorities, and who owns each part of the effort."
