Fiksu, a marketing firm, in its latest analysis report finds that the top 200 free iOS apps in the US achieved a record number of downloads in October - 7.8 million to be precise.

The report attributes the large number of downloads in October to the launch of the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus. Notably, a large number of iOS apps was reinstalled by those users who shifted from older iPhone models to the new ones.

Sequentially, the iOS app downloads in the US soared by 42 percent as compared to September, and 39 percent from October last year.

Moreover, CPLU (Cost Per Loyal User), or cost of acquiring a user that opens an app at least three times, dropped to $2.16 from $2.25 in September due to the behaviour of users in an upgrade season to download vital apps again. Also, the CPI or Cost Per Install rose by 21 percent to $1.46 in October.

In the meanwhile, Apple on Monday teamed with the (RED) campaign founded by U2 singer Bono to raise money to fight AIDS. Apple launched a version of its App Store featuring exclusive (RED)-branded content, with all money from sales to be donated to the Global Fund to fight AIDS. Applications in the (RED) App Store include versions of games Angry Birds, Clash of Clans, Farmville, FIFA 15 and Kim Kardashian Hollywood.

On Friday, the company will begin rewarding some purchasers of its products in the United States with special edition (RED) gift cards, with money donated to the Global Fund for each card distributed.
