Samsung in crisis mode, stops production and sales of Galaxy Note 7
Samsung has suspended the production of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone, halted sales worldwide and told customers to stop using the device following reports that even the replacements for the defective models were catching fire. This comes just days after telecom carriers in the US stopped sales of the phone from their stores.

Paytm, Snapdeal to host 3-day online sales starting tomorrow
Discounts are coming to e-commerce websites once again as Paytm will host its first festive sale of the season, and Snapdeal its second, from October 12-14. While the Snapdeal sale is focused on categories like electronics, fashion and home, Paytm’s sale will cover more sections, including travel accessories, kitchen appliances, and more, including mobiles and other electronics, of course.

Sony Xperia XZ goes on sale in India at Rs. 49,990
Sony has kicked off the sales of its Xperia XZ flagship smartphone in India; the handset is available exclusively via Amazon India at Rs. 49,990. The Snapdragon 820-powered Xperia XZ sports a 5.2-inch Full HD display, 3GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, VoLTE support, 23-megapixel rear camera with three sensors, and 13-megapixel front camera.

Facebook launches Workplace, a social network for the office
Facebook has released Workplace, an enterprise corporation and collaboration app, in a challenge to Slack. Workplace, which was earlier called Facebook at Work and had been under beta testing for over a year, is a subscription product (priced between $1 and $3, based on plans), a major departure from the company’s ad-based model.

Samsung launches cylindrical modular PC with 360-degree speakers
Samsung has quietly launched in the US a modular desktop PC called ArtPC Pulse, featuring 360-degree speakers on top. Similar in design to Apple’s Mac Pro PC due to its cylindrical shape, the Samsung ArtPC Pulse is aimed at home users considering its price and specifications.

Cyanogen sees its future in modular OS, appoints new CEO
Cyanogen Inc has reshuffled its top management and announced that it plans to develop a Modular OS Program, under which it will provide “dynamic modules and MODs" that smartphone manufacturers can integrate into their custom versions of Android. Former Cyanogen co-founder Kirk McMaster has been named the Executive Chairman, while erstwhile COO Lior Tal has been named the new CEO.
